After a busy morning of feasting, every hobbit eagerly anticipates a substantial midday meal. The day is only half over and growing hobbits need fuel for the rest of the day. Our hobbit’s feast continues with a visit to the Inn of the Prancing Pony for luncheon – Bree’s premiere travel establishment. Catering to menfolk and hobbitfolk alike, this charming inn will meet all of your sleeping, eating, and drinking needs!
Specializing in authentic pub-style cuisine, the Inn of the Prancing Pony has much to offer the travelling hobbit. Hearty soup and a generous ploughman’s lunch finished with a blackberry tart will remind any hobbit of the comforts of the Shire, as Sam himself noted.

Ploughman’s Lunch Recipe – Spiced Cherry and Port Glazed Ham
A ploughman’s lunch is a favourite among hobbit food. Featuring a variety of cold meats and cheeses, a ploughman’s platter can be as simple or as fancy as you would like. Our hobbit’s feast deserves a grand entrée for this course. Slow roasted and brushed with a spiced cherry and port glaze, this baked ham makes an excellent addition to the humble ploughman’s lunch. Blackberry Almond Tart with Honey Whipped Mascarpone
Juicy, tart blackberries are the perfect berry for this rustic tart. A free-formed galette style tart is a great choice for this menu – simple to make and with an appropriately rustic aesthetic. An almond-scented pastry adds another dimension of flavour while a cloud of honey-sweetened mascarpone whipped cream mellows out the tanginess of the berries. Ploughman’s Lunch with Blackberry Tart
Ingredients
- 1 recipe Beef, Stout, and Barley Soup prepared
- 1 recipe Spiced Cherry and Port Glazed Ham prepared
- 1 recipe Blackberry Almond Tart with Honey Whipped Mascarpone prepared
- 2-3 assorted cheeses
- 1 loaf country bread
- assorted pickles
Instructions
- To prepare this meal, being by roasting the ham. Both the ham and soup can be made a day ahead and reheated before serving. Bake the tart just before serving.
- The ploughman's lunch can be arranged on a serving platter or on individual plates. Slice the ham and portion the cheese. Arrange the ham, cheese, and pickles on the serving platter or plates. Serve the bread and soup on the side.
- Serve the Blackberry Almond Tart for dessert.
