Ingredients

Strawberry Basil Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 10-12 fresh basil leaves

Strawberry Basil Margarita

  • 1 ¼ oz blanco tequila
  • ½ oz orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 1 ½ oz Strawberry Basil Syrup
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 lime sliced
  • kosher salt
  • extra sliced strawberries for garnish
  • extra fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Strawberry Basil Syrup

  • In a saucepan combine the water and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved. Add the sliced strawberries and turn down the heat to low. Simmer on low for about 5 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and add the basil leaves, stirring to combine. Cover and let steep for about 30 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer, pressing gently on the solids to drain all of the syrup. Let cool completely before mixing the drink.

Strawberry Basil Margarita

  • Prepare the glass by running a slice of lime around the outside rim of the glass. Holding the glass upside-down over your sink, sprinkle the kosher salt around the rim of the glass. Gently shake the glass to remove the excess salt. Add ice cubes to the glass and set aside.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, orange liqueur, Strawberry Basil Syrup, and lime juice. Add ice, then cover, and shake for 10 to 15 seconds. Strain into the prepared glass.
  • Garnish the drink with a slice of lime. Add a few slices of strawberries and a basil leaf to the drink and enjoy!

Notes

Note: If you can't find ripe, fresh strawberries then substitute with the same amount of frozen strawberries.
